Millennials and Gen Zs often have a strong bond towards the EU and the idea of one Europe. Still, with Brexit and the general shift towards the political right, this feeling of a European identity has begun to crumble, and people myself included have started to fear the future, not only in terms of a loss of opportunities but also shift towards violence. The EU was founded to prevent disasters like the second world war from ever happening again. When countries start wanting to leave, one can feel scared. Emanuel Macron, the French president, has in his speech to the European government stated that he is lucky to come from a generation that has never experienced war. This project represents the fear I feel coming from the loss of an EU member, but also the hope I still think that even though our differences, we can again feel a sense of our European identity.
